ESSENDON coach Matthew Knights last night did little to hose down speculation that the Bombers intended to trade troubled midfielder Andrew Lovett.
While he had discussed Lovett's future with him, Knights said he did not intend to make that conversation public. He was responding to a television report last night that Lovett, who is contracted until the end of 2009, would be traded. "Andrew's a contracted player, so basically, there's no definitive decisions with a player that's under contract. I have spoken to Andrew about how the year's gone, and also where we're heading as a club, but discussions of (the) future are between Andrew and myself."Lovett has been banned by the club twice this year. -- NICK SHERIDAN
